Erie County Prosecutor's Office Investigator Michael Capizzi was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on Ohio 56 in London, Ohio. He was in London attending a training class on child abuse when he was struck in front of the training building. Investigator Capizzi, age 36, had served with the agency for two years and had previously served with the Erie County Sheriff's Department for 11 years. Cause: Deputy Capizzi was in London, Ohio, for police training and had gotten up early to take a walk with Sandusky Police Detective, Roy Prewitt, before classes started. He was wearing headphones and failed to stop for a passing car, Erie County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth said. The car struck him, killing him instantly. The sheriff's department honors his memory with a tree outside the office and an engraved marble plaque.
