Vernon Arley Cox, 92, went to be with the Lord on September 4, 2017. Vernon, the son of the late Jesse and Lallie McNinch Cox, was born in Greenbrier, Arkansas on February 6, 1925.
He was a member of First Assembly of God church, Pangburn, Arkansas where he volunteered for building maintenance and lawn care for many years. He loved his church. He went into the CCC’s in 1939 during the depression. In 1943 he enlisted in the Navy where he was stationed at the Naval Ordinance Testing Station in Inyokern, California. He was honorably discharged as a U.S. Naval Aviation Ordinanceman Second Class SV-6 in February 1946. He was a WWII Veteran. He spent 14 years in Sales for Petroleum Distributing Co. in the Rocky Mountain District. For the next 5 years he owned and operated an auto-mechanic shop in Blanding, Utah. He spent the next 10 years working overseas for Loffland Bro. Drilling Company as a shop supervisor, residing in Libya, Indonesia, Ecuador, and Saudi Arabia. Vernon and his wife, Marcella, enjoyed many years of overseas travels.

Upon return to the U.S., they bought and operated the Red River Trout Dock in Heber Springs, Arkansas until 1985. He then opened a small engine repair shop until he finally retired at age 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers: Alvin, Carl, Charly, Bob, and Willie Ray, 2 sisters: Lillian Beck and Carol Boruff, and one great-granddaughter, Lindie Lauren Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marcella Osborn Cox, 2 daughters: Marcie Stom (Pete), Sharon Wasil (Bob), one son; Daniel V. Cox (Anita), one sister, Deloris Melton (Larry), one brother-in-law, Dale Boruff, 8 grandchildren: Dawn Jacks (Randy), Christy Taylor (Aaron), Jeff Wasil, Stacie Wasil, Kimberly Marcone (Peter), Tanya Barnes, Daniel F. Cox, and Felicia Hipp (Jamie), 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Family Funeral Service 100 W. Searcy Street, Heber Springs, Arkansas) led by Pastor Mark Smith, visitation starting at 9:00 A.M. Interment will be at a later date at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock.
