Lynn Willey Wood, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, returned to his heavenly home on September 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 21, 1934, in Ogden, Utah to Clifford Ulysses and Gertrude Willey Wood.

Lynn’s strong work ethic began to develop at the tender age of five, as he worked by his father’s side at Wood’s Service. While attending Davis High School he was employed at Hill Air Force Base. He eagerly accepted a call to serve as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Northwestern States Mission, which at that time included Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and the panhandle of Idaho.

Following his mission, Lynn married his sweetheart, and eternal companion ShirLee Forbes Wood, on August 27, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and they made their home in Layton, Utah. He established and was the owner-operator of Lynn Wood Service Center, which provided many opportunities for his children to learn the ennobling principles of hard work, and integrity. As a lifelong resident of Layton, Lynn was pleased to serve his community as a city councilman for 12 years.

Lynn found great joy in serving his Heavenly Father’s children in each capacity that he was called to, including Elders Quorum President, Layton 9th Ward Bishop, Layton 32nd Ward Bishop, Layton Valley View Stake President, Canada Halifax Mission President, Provo Missionary Training Center 1st Counselor, and New Zealand Missionary Training Center President. He loved his missionaries, and they loved him. Lynn had the opportunity to work as an Infield Representative in the Missionary Department of the LDS Church for many years, where he developed many rich and enduring friendships.

Music was an important part of Lynn’s life. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved to sing. The heavenly choirs will sound even more spectacular with their newest bass! BYU Football was another passion of Lynn’s, and, until recent years, he could be found in his favorite seat at every home game.

Countless are those who have been blessed by Lynn’s cheerful outlook, his generosity, compassion and wisdom. He loved his family with all his heart and demonstrated that love through his faithful example, sacrifice, and unending service.

Lynn is survived by his wife, of 59 years, and their five children, Don (Judy) Wood, Clearfield, Mary Lynn Baird, (Kaysville), James (Deb) Wood, Syracuse, Brian (Renee) Wood, Centerville, Matthew (Julie) Wood, Mapleton; 33 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Calvin B. Wood, and J. Brent Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clifford Wood, Jr., sisters, Amy Jean Sanders, Mary Van Wagoner, Vonda Yarbrough, and Maudell Wood Stamey.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton Park LDS Ward building, 789 East Wasatch Drive, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
