Died, at Shaw, Kans., in the eighty fourth year of his age, Oct. 2, 1897, Harvey Eckley. For several years he has suffered greatly with a cancer.

He made his home for a time with his daughter, Mrs. R. B. Arnold of this place and has many friends here who mourn his death. Of late years he has lived with his only son, Edward E., at Shaw.

He was born in Ohio and graduated from a medical college in that state In 1834. He was married to Martha Ann Finch in Obion county, Tenn., June 10, 1846. Seven children were born to them, five of whom and his wife survive him.

He was many times elected to offices of honor and trust and for many years was postmaster at Kenton. Tenn., and later at Shaw, Kans.

The funeral was conducted mainly by the Masonic lodge of Urbana, Kans., of which he was a member. A large number of friends followed the remains to their last resting place in Shaw cemetery.
