She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville and had been a member of its Altar Society. She was a supporter of Caritas and a former member of the board of directors of St. Catharine College in Springfield, KY. She served on the board of Nazareth College in Nazareth, KY, and, in 1975, served as the secretary of the Advisory Board of Community Health Services. She also served on the board of directors of the Stephen Foster outdoor drama in Bardstown. She was active in the Democratic party and served as the Nelson County, KY, co-chairman of the "Kennedy for President" campaign in 1960.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Edward Bennett Sr., and a son, Jimmy Jack Hardin.
She is survived by her four sons, five daughters, a brother, four sisters, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2004, at Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville, with Rev. William Bowling officiating. Entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2004, and 1-8 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2004.
