Orville Meece, 75, Old Juggernot Road, Somerset, died Monday, March 11, 2002, the result of an accident.

He was born in Ahab, Kentucky on January 3, 1927, son of the late Gilbert and Ella Mae Lowery Meece. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a construction and lumber worker. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans and Buck Creek Baptist Church, Somerset. He was a loving son, devoted brother, and faithful friend.

Survivors include four brothers, James Meece, Indianapolis, Leslie Meece, Butler, Kentucky, Duel Meece, Somerset, and Billy Meece, Wichita, Kansas; and three sisters, Oreda Bowman, Hamilton, Ohio, and Norma VanHook and Doris Slavey, both of Somerset.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Roy Lodell Meece and Curtis J. Meece.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bros. Roger Wright, Ronnie Meece, and Claude Mincey officiating.

Burial will be in Wesley's Chapel Cemetery, Somerset, with military services by American Legion Post No. 38.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

According to Pulaski County Coroner Alan Stringer and information provided by the sheriff's department, at approximately 9:46 a.m., 74-year-old Orville Meece of Old Jugornot Road, Somerset, suffered a fatal heart attack while driving south on Rush Branch Road, approximately 5 miles south of Somerset.

Meece's vehicle left the road and struck a tree at the intersection of Rush Branch and Slavey roads.

Meece was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:30 a.m. Stringer said Meece died of heart failure before impact. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. Stringer also said that Meece had recently been at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital complaining of chest pains.

Orville Meece, of Old Jugornot Road, was pronounced dead at the scene about 5 miles south of Somerset by the Pulaski County Coroner's Office. About 9:45 a.m., Meece was headed south on Rush Branch Road when his Mazda went off the road and hit the tree, according to a Pulaski County Sheriff's Office press release.
