Ette, the daughter of John and Katrina Goldenstein was born in Germany on July 24, 1855. She was one of 6 children and the last to survive. The children were orphaned at an early age and committed to the care of relatives. She received her education of the common school in Germany.
At about the age of 20 she came to the US and located near Decatur, IL. In November of 1879 she married William Ellrich also of Decatur, IL. The family came to Newell, IA in 1895 and settled on the farm east of town until 1918 when she and William retired and moved to town.
