Reginald le Cheyne, 2nd of Duffus, inherited the extensive estates of his father, Reginald le Cheyne, 1st of Duffus. He was one of the Scottish barons who wrote the letter to the pope from Abroath, asking for favor for the Bruce dynasty. He was taken prisoner at the Battle Halidon Hill in 1333. He married a Norsewoman and had two daughters: Mariot, who married first, Sir John Douglas, and secondly, after his death, John de Keith; and Marjory, who married Nicholas, brother of the earl of Sutherland. He died "very old about 1350 and was buried in the Abbey of Olgrinmore Halkirk parish, covered with sand brought by his wish from the strand of beloved Loch More, 'the big lake.'"
