Worley K. Mays, Sr., was born in Shady Valley, Tennessee, on November 3, 1937, and was the son of William and Julia (Fletcher) Mays. On August 8th, 1959, Mac married Miss Carol Ann Haubenstricker and together they celebrated 56 years of marriage before Carol passed away in June of 2016. Mac retired from the AC/Spark Plug division of General Motors, after 30 years of employment. He was a current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson, MI, along with a number of other Lutheran churches in the various communities they lived. Mac was a lover of the outdoors. He and Carol enjoyed RVing, especially in the National Parks, and took their children all over the country. He played the banjo and was a member of the Flint Banjo Club.
Mac leaves his family to cherish many memories. His children: Waneta and Wayne Hamit, W. Kent Mays, Jr., Logan and Jill Mays, Melinda and Tom Pichan. He leaves also his four grandchildren: Josh and Courtney Hamit, Autumn and Bradford Patterson, Jack and Sam Pichan, a great-grandson Zachary Hamit; many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides his wife, Mac is preceded in death by all of his eight siblings.
The Mays family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home on Friday September 8th, 2017, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. There will be a brief time of visiting at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the services begin. Funeral services for Mac will be held at 11:00 am Saturday September 9, 2017, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington, MI. The burial will follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Pastor Wayne Hamit will deliver the funeral message and the closing prayer at the cemetery.
