Norma Hanson Nielson
January 11, 1935 ~ August 25, 2017 (age 82)

Norma Hanson Nielson, 82, passed away August 25, 2017 at her home in St. George, Utah from cancer. She was born in Shelley, Idaho on January 11, 1935 to Melvin and Lillian Beckstrand Hanson. She is the 10th child of 11 children and the 8th girl in the family. She learned to work early in life because of the big garden the family maintained. If any of the children complained of not feeling good, they were told to grab a hoe and go work it off in the garden. She attended grade school and high school in Shelley.

While attending a stake dance at the stake center in Shelley, she met Marvin Nielson. He asked if he could take her home. She accepted and the romance started. After graduating from high school and Marvin coming home from the army, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple, from this union came five children (four girls and one boy) Diane Johnson (Danny) of Shelley, Idaho; Marian McKenna (Rod) of West Jordan, Utah; Judy Cutler (Brad) of Taylorsville, Utah; Bonnie King (Kirt) of Smithfield, Utah; Roger Nielson (Laura) of San Diego, California. 14 grandchildren and 20 some great-grandchildren.

Norma was very active in the LDS Church, serving in the primary, Relief Society, St. George Temple and a mission with her husband in Arcadia, California after retirement. She also learned and enjoyed tole painting and spent many hours painting toy cars, birdhouses, trays and many other items.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morningside Stake Center located at 879 S. River Road. Viewings will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 6-8:00 p.m. also one prior to the service on Friday from 9-10:45 a.m. Interment at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
