Florence I. Sanders
Mrs. Florence I. Sanders, 82, of 428 Southmoor Rd., La Porte, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at 4:14 p.m. at La Porte Hospital.
She was born July 9, 1919, in Wanatah to Max and Grace (Shurte) Drazer, and had lived in La Porte County her entire life.
Mrs. Sanders retired as an elementary school teacher after 42 years with La Porte Community Schools, having taught at Washington, Crichfield and Springfield Township elementary schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of La Porte, La Porte Business Girls, Indiana State Teachers Association, Easter Star (La Porte Chapter) and Christian Women's Club. She was a graduate of Wanatah High School, attended Bethel College and received a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University.
On Sept. 6, 1942, in Michigan City, she married Charles Park Sanders, who died July 28, 1978.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Mabel O'Connor and Mildred Pratt, and one brother, Donald Drazer.
Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Warnke of La Porte, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Essling Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Friends may call today from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
