Kyle, Steven to his family and friends was the son of Willard and Joan Hamilton, the dear brother of Roger, Michael, and Patricia Ann Hamilton of Saint Paul Virginia. He enlisted in the US Army on March 27, 1969 in Roanoke Virginia. Receiving orders for duty in Vietnam he arrived on May 4, 1970 where he was assigned to and served with HHC Company, 1st Battlion, 46th Infantry, 198th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV.

On March 28, during Operation MIDDLESEX GREEN there was an engagement with the enemy at FSB ( Fire Support Base) Mary Ann some 7 kilometers northwest of Hau Duc in Quang Tin Province. The Base Camp was surrounded and came under a heavy enemy attack during which the perimeter was breached and there were heavy casualties. Thirty men were killed in the action, one of the casualties was SP5 Hamilton who was killed by hostile rocket or mortar fire.
