Gary Andre' Faulkner, 66, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 28 at 12 Noon in the Chapel of Ingleside Baptist Church. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Construction Pathways Skills USA, 1780 Anthony Road, 31204. Gary was born in Gray, Georgia to the late Lawrence Lanier and Margaret Skinner Faulkner. In 1968, as a running back for Jones County High School, Gary was recruited by a number of colleges and was offered a complete athletic scholarship by Jerry Glanville to attend Georgia Tech. During his outstanding career at Tech, Gary was a freshman coach, a starting safety his sophomore year, and set a number of records. In the 1972 Liberty Bowl, Gary was Defensive MVP and later served as a student assistant coach after a knee injury. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management and later earned his Master's degree in Education. Gary started his coaching career at Tattnall Square Academy and also coached at Barnesville Academy. In addition he went on to coach various local teams for his sons. Gary taught for 14 years at Hutchings Career Center and had a big influence in starting the Construction Pathways program. He enjoyed Ingleside Baptist Church and helping with stage construction for VBS. Gary influenced countless students and athletes with his positive encouragement and love of life. He enjoyed all of his friendships especially with his longtime friend, Dr. Dennard Scoggins. As much as Gary enjoyed football and teaching, the light of his life was being "Bop Bop" to his grandchildren and "Uncle Mean" to his nephew. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leann Hammock Faulkner; children, Dre (Kimberly) Faulkner, Kimberly Faulkner, Tyler (Hannah) Faulkner, and Trent Faulkner; grandchildren, Grey, Langley Anne, Gibbs and Banks; siblings, Grant (Dale) Faulkner, Dean (Betty Jo) Faulkner, Glenda (Gary) Yonce; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Penny Talton and their son, Gray; numerous nieces and nephews.
