Anita Florence Lewis died peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born February 3, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Meyer, her parents, Julia and Jack Rosenthal, of Beaumont, TX and her brother, Sheldon Rosenthal, of Lake Charles, LA.
A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Anita is survived by two daughters and their spouses: Felice and Ed Klein and Rhonda and Randy Hardaway. Her grandchildren are Marlee and Janelle Klein and Lauren Hardaway. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Anita attended Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and then moved to Houston where she began working as an executive secretary for Gerald D. Hines Inc. Anita was well known for her speedy short hand and excellent organizational skills.
Anita met the love of her life, Meyer, on a blind date in 1952. They were married nearly 65 years, until Meyer’s death in February 2017. The two of them formed a loving partnership that prevailed during happy times and some very difficult times surrounding Anita’s health concerns over the years. Meyer never left her side. He cared for her at their home until she came to Seven Acres. Then, when Meyer moved to Seven Acres, he visited her every day to help and comfort her.
Anita and Meyer loved to travel abroad, especially taking cruises. They took a “big trip”, as they would call it, every year. During those trips, they collected many beautiful treasures and memorabilia to decorate their home and share with their daughters. Anita was known for being a meticulous homemaker and a master of making “to do” lists for all of us.
Anita loved to cook and bake. All of us remember her fantastic kugels, chicken soup, dill pickles and delicious desserts. Anita was a devoted wife, mother and loving grandmother. She will be missed greatly.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the team of compassionate caregivers at Seven Acres who made her years there as comfortable as possible and became like a “second family” to her and Felice and Rhonda. We want to particularly recognize Alberta Francis, Angela Hardison, and Angela Lodero for their tireless devotion to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Anita’s memory can be made to Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services or a charity of your choice.
