Mrs. Hughes was born in Asheboro, NC on June 17, 1924 to Walter C. and Alma Paisley Robbins. She graduated from Asheboro High School where she was voted "Most Athletic." Jeanette was retired from Union Carbide after 34 years of service. She was a member of West Bend United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Coolidge Hughes, infant son, Thomas Wayne Hughes, son, Jerry Kenneth Hughes, infant great grandson, Grayson Briles McDowell, brothers, Ralph, Howard, and Donald Robbins, and sister, Pauline R. Vickery. Jeanette loved her family very much. She enjoyed putting puzzles together with her family and attending her great grandchildren's sporting events.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Angie Hughes Voncannon of Asheboro and Starla Hughes Beane and husband Kevin of Asheboro; great grandchildren, twins Hannah and Brooke Beane, Reece Beane, and Jordan Beane all of Asheboro; sister, Doris Tysinger of Denton; niece, Joretta Holt of Asheboro; and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating.
