Ex-Chief of State Highways Dies
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Grant P. Merrill, 83, California Superintendent of highways about 15 years ago, died here following surgery.
Merrill, who lived in Alpine County, Calif., had been staying with relatives here. he had designed and directed construction of several highway passes through the Sierra in Alpine County.
Merrill, who died Saturday, was considered an authority on early California-Nevada history and was the son of the late Willis P. Merrill who had operated a Pony Express Station at Woodfords, California.
