Coming here in 1837 from South Carolina, where he represented the Lexington District in the legislature, he bought 1,827 acres of land from Sampson Gibson in the 11th District and there built his home where he lived the remainder of his life. Born in 1788, Major Kaigler served in the War of 1812 as a corporal in Captain Robert Cannon's Company of Infantry. He was married to Miss Barbara Craps and to the union were born 12 children. Five of the sons served in the War Between the States. He developed a vast portion of the land in the 11th District and at one time paid taxes on 3,000 acres. He was a very liberal contributor to the needy and served his county in many different capacities. His original home was burned.
