Jimmy T. Russell, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2017, just 20 days short of his 85th birthday. He was born to T.W. and Thelma Huddleston Russell on September 9, 1932 in Harriman, Tennessee and grew up in Kingsport, TN. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he went on to work at the Knoxville News Sentinel, retiring after 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Joshua Perry, brother Frank Russell, sisters: Betty Blair and Mary Shelton. Survived by his wife Alma Lois Russell of 65 1/2 years; son, Jimmy T. (Ted) Russell and wife Belinda; daughters: Teresa Russell and Noleka (Nicky) Shelby and husband Doug; grandchildren: Jason Perry, Travis Russell and wife Kirby, Eric Russell and wife Chelsea, Nicole Shelby Yates and husband Cory; 3 great grandchildren: Teddy, Everett and Crosby Russell; sisters: Dot Jackson, Ann Hagy, Carolyn Hammond, Irene Anderson and Maxine Surgenor. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 5-7 pm in the chapel of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 10:00 am in Lynnhurst Cemetery, with Rev. David Bishop, officiating.
