Rachel was born in Bagley on February 7, 1909, she was tha daughter of Mark and Emma ( Ahlman ) Thayer. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Bagley.
On December 6, 1925, she married Paul Herman. Together they made their home in Bagley where he worked farming and logging. After Paul passed away she moved to Jordan and worked at the Valley View Nursing Home as well as babysitting most of the neighborhood children.
In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and watching westerns on television but most importantly spending time with family and friends,
Survivors include one daughter, Pauline Vezina, of Shakopee; two sons, Duane " Swede " ( Betty ), of Jordan, and Leroy ( Arlys ), of Bagley; one brother, Julius Thayer, of St. Paul; one sister, Goldie Johnson, of Bagley; many grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; two sons, Mark "Ted", and Nels; three sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8, at Wagner Funeral Home, Jordan, with Rev. Robert Iverson officiating.
Burial was at the Bagley Cemetery, arrangements were with Wagner Funeral Home, Jordan.
Pallbearers were Wes, Jack, and Jimmy Herman, Donnie and David Bardwell, and Mark Peabody.
