Daughter of John Edwin (Johnny) Byrne and Alice Lee Johnson

Wife of Arnold McCray Allred III and James F.Mills

Kathy Lee Allred-Mills “KB” of Woodbine Maryland daughter of the late John Edwin (Johnny) Byrne and Alice Lee Johnson and brother Johnny Byrne, a firefighter with SSVFD, was born March 7, 1956, died Aug 11, 2017.
… after a merciless unyielding battle with pancreatic cancer
Dearly loved and survived by her husband James F Mills, two children; Brian M Allred and Toby C Allred and two step children; Felice E Mills and Monique T Mills, eight grandchildren and many hundreds of family, very close friends and grieving close acquaintances. She was a bright shining, sharing compassionate, loving presence in all our lives. A loving wife and mother clearly evidenced by her intense smile, sharing heart and attitude. She leaves behind wonderful memories and inspiration to all who crossed her path.
Kathy was a Life member and treasurer of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department – Auxiliary “SSVFD-Aux”. She would consistently volunteer to lead and provide food and leadership at all SSVFD-Aux events.
Early on she was friend and coworker at a popular local community clothes cleaning service, then a Shared Owner in an Antiques Shop with a lifelong friend, then a shared partner and bookkeeper in a video and TV equipment repair shop with her then late husband Cray Allred. She was then for many years the single sole owner of a successful Private & Trusted home cleaning service.
She was proud of her mother and father building their 2 bedroom home with family and friends in Silver Spring MD where she grew up. She loved her Father’s gardening skills providing vegies to all local vegetable stands and sharing family brewed salsa with all.
She was intensely proud of her mother’s afflation with the auxiliary in support of the SSFD volunteer firefighters and her mother’s consistent provision of drink and sandwiches from the Original Hawkins-Sandy Spring Store (Now Gone) and often recounted simulated fire events where she as a young 14 year old ‘victim’ had her favorite jeans cut off to expose the simulated injuries.
She loved to attend Disney World ABC Soap events, Cruises and was a skilled craft, jewelry and bargain shopper always finding special and interesting items everyone else missed.
If we try to say all we loved about our beautiful sparkling Kathy it would be a book full.
Kathy’s Intense love of dogs personal and other, dog recovery, dog transport, dog rehabilitation and the service dog programs drew her to support/ contribute as often as she could.
Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Roy W. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Rd., Laytonsville, MD 20882, where memorial services will be held at 10:00 am to noon, followed with remembrance at the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department station 4, 17921 Brooke Road Sandy Spring, MD 20860 at 12:30 to 2:00 pm.
