Arthur Jackson Strother was born, raised and married in Lincoln Parish. He farmed for a while and then worked as a millwright in the area's sawmills, moving to where the work was located. In 1925, the family moved from the country to the Town of Dubach in Lincoln Parish. Arthur worked in the sawmill until it closed in 1927. He left the family then and went east to Monroe in Ouachita Parish for work. The family followed a few months later in 1927. That was the year of the big flood. All of West Monroe was covered with water, and there were tent cities everywhere. In Monroe, he was active in church work and was a steward of the Gordon Avenue Methodist Church, Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the choir. He worked as a carpenter until 1944, when he suffered a stroke. He lived paralyzed for another three years, and died at age 71 at his home, one day after his birthday.
