Eleanor Theresa Hawkins, beloved daughter to the union of the late Lena
and Richard Cooper was born September 16, 1916, in La Plata, Maryland. Preceded her in death was her loving devoted husband Edward D. Hawkins, Sr.
of 58 years. Also, her brothers Robert Cooper, Richard Cooper and William Henry Cooper, Sr.
Eleanor attended the District of Columbia public schools and was a graduate of Martha M. Washington.
Eleanor began a career as a chef at Bowling Hotel where she was employed for many years. After leaving her previous employer she was employed by Howard
Restaurant as a chef until retirement.
Eleanor joined Sacred Heart Church many years ago and attended faithfully until her illness.
Eleanor was a long and devoted member of the Willing Helping Society.
Eleanor was a loving and caring person throughout her entire life. The love of her family and friends was very dear to her.
Although Eleanor was not the maternal mother; she raised the following three children as her own: Salome B. Hawkins, Patricia A. Bell and Edith Mae Bazemore (Cookie), eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, one sister-in-law Margaret Cooper, two son-in-law Allen Bazemore and James Bell, many nieces and nephews.
She also leave to cherish her memories; Eric Cole, who was like a son to her who took personal interest and thoughtful concerns until her death. The Lancaster family who gave there support and comfort until her death.
