Lane VanOrman Jones
September 13, 1932 – August 14, 2017

Lane VanOrman Jones was born on September 13, 1932, to Frank Lane and Maud Tippetts Jones in Ogden, Utah. He grew up in Kaysville, Utah with seven siblings. He graduated from Davis High School and attended Weber State College.

At the age of twenty, Lane joined the Air Force and was stationed at Chaunte, Randolph, Edwards and Parks Air Force Bases eventually returning to Utah where he lived the rest of his life. Upon returning to Utah, Lane was employed at Hill Air Force Base. He was a Chief Master Sergeant and received a National Defense Medal. Lane was a hard worker and enjoyed his work until he was forced to retire at the young age of seventy-five.

Lane was also an Air Force Reservist and received a special recognition in 1972 as one of the top three National Reservists for the Air Force Logistics Command as a “Highly Qualified Fix-it Man.” He retired from the Reserves at age sixty.

Lane was the father of seven children, and after he married Elaine, he was blessed with two bonus daughters as well as additional grandchildren.

The outdoors was his playground. He enjoyed traveling, camping, four-wheeling and especially fishing with his brother Frank K. Lane was a hard worker and enjoyed working with his hands. He could fix almost anything and enjoyed helping others. He was also a member of the Frances Peak Gem and Mineral Society.

He cared deeply for his family as was evidenced by the loving care he provided for many years as he watched over and took care of his mother. He was always willing to help her with anything she needed, and he took her, with his family, on several trips.

The last few years, Lane has valiantly fought cancer, heart disease and kidney failure. His determination to overcome these obstacles and enjoy life with Elaine and his family gave him the strength to endure and live as fully as he could. He lived up to his name as a true ‘Jones.’ He would not let even the doctors tell him what he was going to do. He proved them wrong and rallied several times to their surprise and amazement and lived as fully as he could despite his challenges.

Lane was a quiet, reserved and very private man. He held things close to his heart and will be forever indebted to his angel wife, Elaine, for all the long hours of selfless care she provided him. Those that truly knew Lane were blessed. He will be greatly missed!

We would also like to thank Dr. Ryan McDonald, Cori, Lori, Brad and staff from South Ogden Home Dialysis and Sunny and Raelynn from I.H.C. Hospice.

Graveside Services, with Military Honors, will be held at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah, on Monday, August 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m.
