George Washington Hyland was born in Pittsburg, Coos Co, NH to Abner and Melinda Rogers Hyland 4 Feb 1828, their first child (they married 28 June 1827).

George came to Wis. before 1848 as that year he married the widow of his Uncle Amasa Hyland, Margaret M. Sanborn Hyland on 28 August 1848 recorded in Dodge Co records in Vol 3 page 253. They were both 20 years of age.

Margaret M. Sanborn was born in Barnston, Stanstead Co, Quebec, Canada (a small village just 10 miles north of the Vermont border). Her brother Lorenzo D. Sanborn married George's sister Nancy Marie Hyland.

Margaret had one daughter Celia S. Hyland and together George and Margaret had 6 children: Alice Margaret, Elson Amasa, Ella A. (Nellie-twin of Elson), Harvey George, Adelbert E., and Margaret E (called Addie).

After Margaret's death (11-15-1827-8-11-1862) George married a widow, Amanda Melvina Tabor Keysar (widow of Jeremiah Y Keysar 4-19-1828-10-19-1859). These families had all lived together in New Hampshire and come to Wis. together.

Amanda had two sons: Albert T. Keysar and Frank C. Keysar.

In 1884 the paper noted that George rented his farm for three years and moved to Prairie du Sac where most of the Tabors had settled. Amanda died there in 1896 of heart failure.

George then moved to live with his son, Harvey George Hyland in Portage, Columbia, WI where he died just a day after his sister Nancy Hyland Sanborn died. They had joint funerals.
