Old Settler of Minneapolis Dead
Cyrus Chase jenks, aged 90 years, died at Litchfield, MN last Friday. Mr. jenks was born in Rutland, VT* (NY) in 1808. He emigrated to Minnesota in 1848 and engaged in the manufacture of brick, making the brick with which Fort Ripley was built. He settled in St. anthony in 1849 and in Minneapolis in 1850, building the third house that was erected here. He was the first constable in Minneapolis and later became the first county superintendent of schools. Mr. Jenks resided in Minneapolis until 1856, when he moved to Rockford. During the latter years of his life Mr. Jenks has resided with his daughter, Mrs. (Helen) Knights. C. H. Jenks, division superintendnet of the Great Northern road at Grand Forks, ND, is a son.
