Etna: Fred W. Mitchell 91 died surrounded by his loving family Aug. 15, 2017 at a Pittsfield hospital following a long illness. He was born in Houlton, ME Aug. 11, 1926 the son of George W. and Grace L. (McBrierty) Mitchell.

Fred was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving as a Corporal during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Army he returned to his job as a road patrolman and working his way up to a heavy equipment operator with the Department of Transportation, State of Maine. Retiring after over 30 years operating a grader for the State of Maine. Fred also worked for Lane Construction, Down East Associates, and Jeff Brown Builders. Fred liked operating the big graders and was good at what he did. He was employed by Bob Noyes in Carmel grading roads until he was 80 years old.

Fred was a 40 year member of Benevolent Masonic lodge # 87 in Carmel. He was also a member of Anah Shrine in Bangor, a member of the VFW in Carmel.

Fred was married to Anita (Clukey) Mitchell who predeceased him on Sept 3, 2015. They were married for 61 years.

He is survived by his son and wife Steve and Hollie Mitchell of Etna, two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and John Dow of Corinth, Barbara and Charlie Peavey of Corinna, three brothers Don Mitchell and his wife Betty of Etna, Dale Mitchell and his wife Dianne of Newport, Glenn Mitchell and dear friend Lillian of Veazie, two sisters, Thelma R. Stauffer of Troy, Geneva C. McCrea of Troy, Five grandchildren; Miranda, Megan, Dani, Mariah, Keilen, four great grandchildren; Makaila, Mason, Kaylee, Rilynn, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by a sister Winnie.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Visiting Angels, Hospice, Nancy Darr.
