Born October 29, 1949, in New York, Wayne was a son of the late James Lee and Grace Sams.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam.
Wayne worked at Caterpillar in Peoria and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in North Carolina.
Wayne loved watching any kind of sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sams; a son, Michael Sams; and a brother, James Sams, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Sams; two step-children, Greg Winkler and Angela Winkler; his sisters, Vivian Brown, Vera (Sue) Greer, Mary Sams and Patty LaFever; a brother, Charlie Sams; and 13 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Mill Point Cemetery in Elmore, IL.
