Leonard Shelton Sr. of the 107 Cut-off, Greeneville, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017, surrounded by his family members.

Originally from Erwin, Tennessee, he and his family moved to Greene County in 1956, where he was a farmer for many years before retiring.

He was combat in WWII, where he served as a staff sergeant in the 338 Infantry Regiment 85th Division and earned a Bronze Star as well as a Purple Heart.

Leonard always had a smile on his face and a story to tell.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Harley Bailey of Johnson City; three sons: Leonard Shelton Jr. (Robin Colyer), Jancer and Beth Shelton of Greeneville, and Roger and Marcella Shelton of Chuckey; a special friends who was like a son and his wife: Steve and Wanda Riddle; thirteen grandchildren: John Bailey, Danny Bailey, Lisa Hite, Allison Riddle, Shawn Shelton, Eric Shelton, Kayla Hogan, Cody Hogan, Kristina Shelton, Sarah Arrowood, Michael and Wife Brooke Shelton, Tallie Shelton, Johnson and husband Chris of Nashville, and Travis Shelton; ten great grandchildren: Avery Bailey, Josie Bailey, Seth Shelton, Madison Shelton, Jordan Shelton, Anzlee Adams, Eli Long, Addyson Shelton, Brayden Arrowood, and Emma Shelton; cousins and several nieces and nephews; a faithful friend: Roy Ricker; as well as many other friends he loved.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years: Iva Mae Shelton; a son and daughter-in-law: Harold and Peggy Riddle; parents: Jess and Elminer Shelton; three brothers: Ervin Shelton, Norman Shelton, and Robert Shelton; and four sisters: Betty Bradshaw, Bethel Sparks, Bertie Ambrose, and Bonnie Hensley.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Winford Shelton, Rev. Buster Shelton, and Rev. Ray Shelton officiating.

Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be John and Danny Bailey, Michael Shelton, Shawn Shelton, Eric Shelton, and Travis Shelton.
