John was born Sept. 23, 1928, in rural Chenoa, the son of Gordon and Josephine Boian Pool. He married Elizabeth Baker in 1956. He later married Rosemary Bornder in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Pool; children, Cheryl (Gary) Connelley, Mark W. (Tamara) Pool, Gary L. Pool and Cathy J. (Joseph) Perritano; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Connie (Pete) Bachman and Vicky (Curt) Meiner; five step-grandchildren; six step=great-grandchildren and sister, Clara Mae Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Schrishuhn.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 54, Fairbury. He was known for his work ethic and worked multiple farming jobs during his adolescence. After returning from the Army, he worked at Caterpillar for 16 years. He then worked for Koehl Enterprises, Fairbury, as a welder and millwright and retired after 20 years in 1993. He was an accomplished mechanic and carpenter who built two homes.
John obtained his aviation license at the age of 16 and carried it for 30 years. He was a long-time member of the Moose and American Legion. John enjoyed boating and watching dirt track racing. As a young mechanic, he worked on race cars.
