George graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas in 1922. The description in his 1922 high school yearbook describes him as, "As wise and dignified as three owls".

George worked for the Texas Employment agency in Dallas for many years before retiring to Quitman. As a younger man, he had worked as a plasterer.

Married to Lucille Jones the 20th of July 1926 by Rev. R.E.Beaird of Daingerfield, Morris county, Texas.
