Oliver was born in Memphis, Tenn. He grew up in both Memphis and in St. Louis, MO. His first name was for his father Oliver Francis Wysong and his middle name Madison was for his paternal grandfather Madison Kent Wysong.

Oliver Madison "Bud" Wysong served in the US Army during WWI as a Private First Class in Company M, 7th Infantry, 3rd Division overseas, HQ TR 3rd Corps. Departed from Hoboken, NJ on 07Apr1918 aboard ship Agamemnon. Returned from Brest, France, departing on 25July1919 aboard the ship Finland and arriving in New York 04Aug1919. The 7th Infantry during WWI was involved in the Aisne Defensive, the battle of Château-Thierry, the defense of the Champagne-Marne region and fighting at Aisne-Marne, Meuse-Argonne, and St. Mihiel.

Oliver often worked as a sheet metal and tin worker. He was involved in that trade in Texas, Missouri, and California.

In 1920 he lived with his father's family in Dallas, Texas. He married (eloped with?) Willie May Sanders in Birmingham, Alabama on the 24Oct1921.

That marriage did not last long and in 1930 he lived in Glendale, CA with his 2nd wife, Grace L. (Peek) Strickland Wysong, [findagrave: 192141355] and her daughters, Mildred and Alma, by a previous marriage to John William Strickland (b 1877 in Illinois) while living in Hutchinson, KS (1920) and Howard, KS (1910) and Liberty, KS (1900). Grace and John wed 05Oct1898 in Coffey, Kansas.
