Alexander was the son of Lanslet/Lanslot/Lancelot Oliver (1704-6/24/1781) and his wife Mary Walker (1706-8/1788). They married in 1730. Alexander's father (and perhaps his mother, too) emigrated from the Ulster province, Ireland, to Boston, MA, and then to Barre, MA.

Alexander and Miriam were among the second wave of pioneers to settle in Ohio in 1788.
"There were eleven [twelve] children, all of whom settled in Ohio. Two of Alexander [and Miriam's] sons [Alexander Jr. and Andrew] became ministers; David became a physician in western Ohio; Lancelot and John were the other sons.
"The daughters were: Lucreta (sic: Lucretia), wife of Levi Munsel (sic: Munsell), who lived several years in Marietta; Betsy (sic: Elizabeth), married Hon. "Alexander Oliver was a Revolutionary War Officer. A native of Conway, Massachusetts, he served as a Colonel for the United States during the Revolutionary War. He emigrated to Ohio and settled in Dalpre. He was married to [Miriam] Mary Warner, daughter of Jesse Warner #64923544 and Jesse's 1st wife Miriam Smith. He died from the effects of age when he was 82 years old. He was initially buried in the Wesley Chapel Burial Grounds [?Oxford, Butler Co., OH] and was later removed to Spring Grove Cemetery on August 19, 1865." Alexander and Miriam were among the second wave of pioneers to settle in Ohio in 1788.
"There were eleven [twelve] children, all of whom settled in Ohio. Two of Alexander [and Miriam's] sons [Alexander Jr. and Andrew] became ministers; David became a physician in western Ohio; Lancelot and John were the other sons.
"The daughters were: Lucreta (sic: Lucretia), wife of Levi Munsel (sic: Munsell), who lived several years in Marietta; Betsy (sic: Elizabeth), married Hon. Daniel Symmes, of Cincinnati; Sally, married Major (_) Austin, United States army, and settled in Cincinnati; Lucreata (sic: Lucinda), wife of George Putnam, son of Colonel Israel Putnam; Mehala (sic: Mahala), married Calvin Shepherd, of Marietta: Electa, wife of O.M. Spencer, of Cincinnati; and Mary, married Oliver Wing, who settled in Washington Co. During the Indian war the family took shelter in Farmer's castle."

"Alexander Oliver was a Revolutionary War Officer. A native of Conway, Massachusetts, he served as a Colonel for the United States during the Revolutionary War. He emigrated to Ohio and settled in Dalpre. He was married to [Miriam] Mary Warner, daughter of Jesse Warner #64923544 and Jesse's 1st wife Miriam Smith. He died from the effects of age when he was 82 years old. He was initially buried in the Wesley Chapel Burial Grounds [?Oxford, Butler Co., OH] and was later removed to Spring Grove Cemetery on August 19, 1865."
