Joyce was born June 30, 1929 in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of Clayton and Margueritte Stannard. Joyce attended Oshkosh High School and graduated from Steven's College in Missouri with a degree in fashion design. Joyce and Charlie met when they were children, dated as teenagers and were married on July 28, 1951 in Oshkosh. She was a homemaker, a Cub Scout den leader and a Sunday school teacher. She loved gardening and had a very sweet disposition and always a pleasure to be with.
Joyce is survived by her children, Ann (Ron) Cardo, David Cross, Joan (Rich) Zurek, John (Mary) Cross and Elizabeth (Jason) Fiala; her adored grandchildren, Brian (Ashley) Cardo, Laura Cardo, Katelyn Zurek, Haley (Austin) DeRonde (Zurek), Megan Cross, Ben Cross, Jake Fiala, Joe Fiala, Madelyn Balfour, Rick Balfour and Charlie (Eljse) Balfour; her great grandchildren, Henry Poulos and William Balfour as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her daughter, Carolyn Balfour; sisters, Martha (Len) Wright, Shirley (Joe) LeRoy and her twin, Joan (Cliff) Karrels.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 beginning with a visitation at 4:00 PM and concluding with a Memorial Service at 5:00 PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Rd., Barrington Hills, IL. Interment for Joyce and Charles will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Oshkosh, WI on Saturday August 19th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
