∼Edward Rutledge Hawn, 73, Leader of Godfrey Orchestra
Edward Rutledge Hawn, a musician, died Monday in Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
He was 73 years old. Mr. Hawn, a descendant of Edward Rutledge of South Carolina, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, played the saxophone, clarinet and violin. He graduated from the Cincinnatti Conservatory of Music and for many years conducted the orchestra for Arthur Godfrey's radio and television broadcasts. He also played at several Presidential inaugurations and appeared with his daughter, the actress Goldie Hawn, in nightclubs and on television.
In addition to Miss Hawn, he is survived by another daughter, Patti Birznieks, and four grandchildren.
