We regret to state that a telegram was received in this city yesterday from Memphis, Tenn., announcing the death in that city between 3 and 4 o'clock on Thursday morning, of Mrs. Sue Mundinger, the wife of Mr. Chris. Mundinger, after quite a protracted illness. The deceased had been an invalid for more than a year past, and while her death was not altogether unexpected it came as a great shock to all those who knew and loved the deceased. Mrs. Mundinger was a sister of our venerable fellow-townsman, Mr. Robert H. Stewart, and will be well remembered by many of our older citizens, she having passed her girlhood here. Marrying Mr. Mundinger she removed to Memphis, where she resided for many years past. She was a most excellent lady, and was highly esteemed by a very large circle of friends. She leaves beside a bereaved husband[,] two sorrowing sons and a number of other relatives to mourn her sad and untimely demise, and to them we tender our most earnest sympathies. The remains of Mrs. Mundinger will doubtless be interred in Memphis, of which city she has so long been a resident."
"Death of a Former Natchez Lady," /Weekly Democrat/, Natchez, Mississippi, 16 September 1896, page [2], col. 4.
Note: Mrs. Mundinger was buried at Elmwood Cemetery on 11 September 1896. See "Elmwood Cemetery Daily Burial Record, 1853–1919," 1896, page 71, entry for Mrs. Sue M. Mundinger, age fifty-two years; digital image, Tom Leatherwood, /Shelby County Register of Deeds/ (http://register.shelby.tn.us/elmwood.php).
