Civil War veteran, wounded at Gettysburg. A butcher by trade, Leonard Seitz enlisted at Geneva, New York, in 1862 and served until the close of the war in 1865. He came to the United States in 1852 and lived in Geneva, N.Y. or Seneca Falls, N.Y., until about 1888, when he moved to Rochester, N.Y. His first wife, Harriet Van Allen, mother of Matilda (Mattie), b. 1866, died in 1867. His second wife, Hannah Barnes, mother of Mary, b. 1869, Frances (Fannie), b. 1874, and Harriet (Hattie), b. 1876, died in 1884 in Geneva. In 1900, he became a resident of the soldiers' home at Bath, N.Y. His survivors included four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Mattie) Schoenfeld, Mrs. Frank (Fannie) Bowman, and Mrs. William (Mary) Bowman, all of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Fred (Hattie) West of Buffalo, N.Y.; one brother, Frederick Seitz, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Miller and Mrs. Lottie Smith.
