The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mrs. Reeves passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Born in Winnsboro, SC, she was the daughter of the late C. L. Whitten and Nettie Chalmers Whitten. She was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church for 46 years. She loved her church, had a strong faith and knew her Lord and Savior. She had a heart of gold and the gift of service. She would visit the sick, sit in hospital rooms for hours, cook and deliver meals and was delighted to do anything to help. She opened her heart and home to her family and friends and was full of compassion to those in need.
Doris was married to the late Herman E. Reeves, Jr. for 52 years. They loved golfing, camping and traveling around the world together. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her son, Randy Reeves, daughters, Sheryl Kindt (Rick), Nancy Cassells (Carl), Barbara Diller (Scott); grandchildren, Joshua Jenkins, Addie Holby (Lane), Anna Diller, Mary Diller, Samantha Reeves, Shannon Reeves, Savannah Cosby, Allie Kindt; great- granddaughter, Keller Holby; sisters, Nell Gainey, Vivian Shull (Carroll), Betty Morris (Randy), Chris Thelen; brothers, Homer Whitten (Esther), James Whitten (Diane); sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy, George, Earl, Wayne and Bobby Whitten.
We are grateful for our cousin, Janice Poston, our special angel on earth, for her enduring love, compassion and faithfulness in caring for our mother these last four years. In addition, we give appreciation to the staff at The Palmettos of Parklane as well as Heartstrings Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Rosewood Baptist Church, Columbia, SC.
