A. LESLIE BURLEIGH
VERNON - A. Leslie Burleigh 62, a life long resident of Vernon and for many years engaged in the general merchant business, died in his home, Peterboro st., Sunday. He had been in ill health for some time.
Mr. Burleigh was born Aug. 12, 1883 in the Town of Vernon, son of the late Jesse R. and Mary Dapson Burleigh. He attended the Vernon schools. At the age of 14 years, he began clerking in the store of the late George F. Langford. and with the exception of the time he attended business school, continued in the business, as long as his health permitted. After the death of Frank Johnson, succeeding proprietor he became a partner in the business which has been taken over by his son, LeRoy L. Burleigh.
Mr. Burleigh attended the Methodist Church and was a member of Sconondoa Lodge 814, F&AM.
On July 8, 1918, he married Miss Lena Edic of Knoxboro; who survives with these children: Mrs. Harry Palmer, Waterboro, Me.; Miss E. Elizabeth Burleigh, a student at Potsdam and LeRoy L. Burleigh at home. He also leaves one brother, Dr. W. Forest Burleigh, Mt. Dora, Fla.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at the H. R. Alger Funeral Home and interment will be made in Maple Grove Cemetery. Members of the Sconondoa Lodge will meet Tuesday at the temple to go to the funeral home in a body and will conduct the Masonic ritual at the grave.
