Born in Hillham, Tennessee October 13, 1920. Fred was raised on the family farm there near Cookeville and served in the South Pacific during WWll. He returned to American soil and waiting bride and son where he resided in Livonia, Michigan until September 2015 when he moved to Independence Village of Brighton. Fred had been no stranger to hard work and he had made his living working overtime paving the nation’s interstate system hauling sand and gravel for Holloway trucking company until his retirement in 1980. As always no matter how strenuous, with that same drive and ambition since his boyhood farming days this do it myself kind of guy continued to tackle big jobs head on. Fred was still willing to get his hands dirty helping others get a job done into his later years. He took pleasure tinkering with fix it projects around his home that was his castle where planting and grooming his yard then resting on his front or back porch gave him enjoyment. His neighbors and family were often grateful recipients of his happy to give, generosity and will miss his endearing character. “I’ve lived a good long life, my family’s been good to me” ~ Fred Barnes
