As "Emma" Ball, she married William Ritchie on 2 May 1881 in Champaign County; both were then residents of Foosland in Brown Township. The couple were the parents of four sons (three of whom lived to maturity), and farmed near Foosland until 1898. William Ritchie afterwards was a grocer in Foosland.
Emma Ritchie died on 21 February 1909 in Foosland, reportedly having suffered from hip disease and stomach trouble for 18 months. She was survived by her husband and three sons, and her father.
