María Amada Eloisa Guadalupe Cooper y Vallejo was born at Monterey in June 1846, just a couple of weeks before Monterey was occupied by U.S. forces. This delayed her baptism, which occurred in the Presidio Chapel on August 1, 1846 (SC Baptism 04733). Amada died almost three years later and was buried in the Campo Santo San Carlos on May 27, 1849 (SC Death 03404Y).
