Mildred was born on June 11, 1931, in Venturia, ND, to Edwin and Elizabeth (Schmierer) Dockter. She attended elementary school in Venturia and high school in Ashley. She married Herb Thurn on March 31, 1951, in Camp Rucker, Alabama. They lived in Bismarck for the last 42 years.
Mildred worked for the Bismarck Public Schools for 18 years. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, where she participated in many activities including the Quilters Group. Mildred was an active member of the local and national Germans from Russia Heritage Society. She enjoyed many activities with her family and traveling with her husband during their retirement. She did many scrapbooks of those activities. Mildred was also a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
Mildred is survived by her husband of 66 years, Herbert Thurn; three children, Clark (Claudia) Thurn, Cheryl (Duane) Rockvoy, and Clarice (Troy) Lancaster; five grandchildren, Courtney (Tyler) Ross, Chelsey (Ashton) Gronewold, Cassie (Brad) Bethke, Mitchell Lancaster, and Taylor Lancaster; four great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Eleanor Bertsch and Dianne Kalberer.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Priscilla Dale, Thelma Bertsch, and Loretta Hoff.
