Obituary - Ethel Mather Sant, wife of Alfred C. Sant, died Monday at 11:22 PM at her home after an illness since March. She was born April 9, 1892 in Smithfield, Utah, the youngest child and daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Cantwell Mather.

She attended schools there. She was a teacher there in Sunday school, religion class and primary and was secretary of the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association and secretary of her ward Choir. This choir presented annual operas, in which she did special dancing taught by Professor Robinson, and sang special parts.

She was a receptionist in a dental office, a telephone operator and later clerked in the Griffeth store in Smithfield. In their community celebration, she was chosen Miss Utah on the 24th of July.

She was married to Alfred C. Sant on Oct. 22, 1913 in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Grace where her husband had employment with the Grace Mercantile as a clerk. Later he had his own grocery store and meat market.

Mrs. Sant was a fine seamtress and cook. After they purchased the hotel, she was co-manager until they sold it in 1948. In Bannock Stake, she was very active in church work and was a member of the Bannock Stake Singing Mothers and also the ward group and ward choir. She was active in the Grace Ward Relief Society.

Besides her husband, she is survived by seven living children; one son Ray, died in infancy; Adrian Sant, San Mateo, Calif; Nona Scott, Medford Ore.; Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Dunn, Murray, Utah; Leo M. Sant, Las Altos, Calif.; Mrs Fern (Shirley) Wright of Thatcher; Mrs. Ray (Margaret Ann Blatter, Burley; 22 grandchildren. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Bessie Noble, Smithfield, Utah and Mrs. Zina Sorenson, and a brother, John Mather of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services were held Friday in the Bannock Stake house.

Burial was made made in the family plot in Smithfield by the Allen Mortuary of Soda Springs.
