Yeates left a will in Virginia, 1787.
One minor clue and one which can have no surety is that in Thomas Conwell's Bible, there is a notation for a birth in 1751, but no name. It is either not recorded or is so faded it is unreadable, except for Conwell. This information from Frank Siegal
It appears that Arthur died in Virginia before the turn of the century, for Elizabeth and some of the children moved to Greene Co. Ohio before 1810. Daughter Eleanor was married to John Tullis in Virginia in 1799. Elizabeth appears on the Greene County Tax Rolls with land under her name. Source of information from Frank Siegle.
INFORAMTION FROM THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE OF ELINOR CONWELL AND JOHN TULLIS, IS THAT HER LAST NAME IS CONWELL, NOT CROMWELL, WONDERFUL INFORMATION. FURNISHED A COPY OF THEIR MARRIAGE LICENSE, WITH PROOF OF THE LAST NAME, COPY OF MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM JEFF TULLIS, OCTOBER 23, 2003.
Information from Frank Seigel furnished to him by Bill Crooks October 31, 2002.
In 1777 the Maryland General Asssembly made it necessary for all adult men in the State of Maryland to sign a oath of Allegiance and Fidelity to the State of Maryland and to the cause of freedom. The following Conwell's each signed the oath from Calvert County; John, Joseph, Richard, Author (misspelled), William and Yeates.
This information indicates that they are probably all related and that Arthur (misspelled in the list) is probably the Arthur who married Elizabeth Davenport from neighboring Charles County, and that Yeates (who I am assuming was born in Sussex County Delaware in 1729 may have settled here for a while before migrating to Viginia. How all this information fits is a question mark.. Only Richard and John are present in Calvert County in the 1783 tax list. We know all the Conwell's are in Berkley County, Virginia by 1781. Perhaps John and Richard arrived later to join Arthur and his family.
The Thomas Conwell Bible has a son born in 1751, but no name recorded. Arthur Conwell married Elizabeth (Davenport) Boswell May 22, 1781, he appears in Virginia on the Tax List. On October 04, 1806 Elizabeth sold her house in Shepardstown, Jefferson County, Virginia that she inherited from her first husband Walter Boswell who died about 1779, and followed her daughter Catharine (Conwell) Bull to Greene County, Ohio and purchased land as a widow in 1807. You can find Catharine Bull and some of her brothers in the 1830 Greene County, Ohio Census.
Source of information from Rolland Conwell Furnished by Frank Siegle November 2002. From Lyle Buck, and research of this framily by so many people in trying to find our Conwell Family.
The Family of Prettyman Conwell had a DNA Test, which proves that William Conwell and Arthur were brother's and we know William was the eldest son of Thomas Conwell and Elizabeth Claypoole.
Thanks to Frank Siegle for the DNA information and from Lyle Buck, my family of Arthur Conwell and Elizabeth Davenport. We would not have had this informtion with all their efforts to prove our genealogy.
