Jane was the daughter of John Ewart and Jane Wilson, a pair of Scots immigrants. Her father was a well known builder and architect in Toronto. Jane had 10 siblings. She married Oliver Mowat May 19 1846. They were the parents of Jane, Jessie, Frederick, Laura, Arthur, Edith and John.
