The son of Elmo and Margaret (McIntire) McClain was born in East St. Louis Illinois, 2 June 1949. The family later moved to Quincy Illinois, where Elmo McClain was a coach at Christian Brothers high school.

Patrick George McClain was a server during Mass at St. Peter's Catholic church in Quincy Illinois, and a member of the church. He went to St. Peter's parochial school, where he took part in sports and was captain of the school's patrol (street crossing) boys.

Patrick George McClain passed away at the family home in Quincy Illinois, on 15 September 1963.
