Monte C. Perkins, 58, of Grand Island, died July 11, 2017, at his home. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 14, 2017, at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Monte Charles was born on September 14, 1958, in Grand Island to Francis and Jeanette (Lacy) Perkins, Jr. He grew up in Grand Island and attended Seedling Mile School and graduated from Northwest. Following graduation he worked for New Holland, and drove truck for a company in Broken Bow. On returning to Grand Island, he worked for Lacey Construction. He owned his own construction business, (Perkin’s Construction) for a while, and built the office for Roberts Milk. He currently worked as a maintenance man at the Normandy and Brentwood Apartments.
On October 15, 1983, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Bly at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island.
Growing up, Monte rode horses in 4-H. He was an avid Husker fan. He also enjoyed watching Westerns, golfing, horse racing, hunting, and fishing. He loved spending time with his friends; including his Sunday card group: Kurt, Joel, Mike, Shirley, and Randy. Monte took pride in his yard, and did many handyman projects around the house. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the Platte-Duetsche. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends.
Monte is survived by his wife, Sheryl; sisters, Kathy (Howard) Nachtman, Christi Coventry, Julie (Todd) Oerman; aunts, Alberta Perkins, Susie Perkins, Lisa Perkins, Waneta (Ray) Lillienthal, Marge Leamons; sister-in-law, Christine Van Winkle; nephews, Mike Van Winkle, Seth Staroscik, Sean Coventry, Austin Perkins, Kipp Nachtman, Casey Nachtman; nieces, Cassie and Kayla Crist, Shianne, Skylar, and Shea Coventry, Sasha Hilger, Meagan Nachtman, Afton Carlson; great nieces and nephews, Shelby, Brandon, Layne, Dakota, Dre’Auna Van Winkle, Charlie Eby, Bergan, Bailey, and Grady Hilger, and Silas Nachtman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wray Perkins; and sister, Cindy Perkins.
