Myrna Jean Osten-Young, 69, of Newton died on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center.

  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, July 9, at the funeral home.  Memorials to Myrna’s family may be left at the funeral home.

Myrna, the daughter of Herman and Alice (Thompson) Lanz, was born on May 14, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa.  She attended Newton Community Schools and lived most of her life in the Newton area.  Myrna worked for 33 years at Skiff Medical Center in Radiology for 12 years and Environmental Services for 21 years, retiring in 2009.  After many years of being together, Myrna was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Young on June 12, 2010. 

She was involved in the Newton Community Theatre and served as an Auxiliary Police Officer for five years.  Myrna enjoyed reading, camping, horses, and antiquing.  She and Bob also liked donating stuffed animals to the hospital for children.

Myrna is survived by her husband, Bob Young of Newton; daughter, Allyson Needham of Newton; son, Jason Osten of Aurora, Colorado; granddaughter, Ashley Needham of Colfax; father and mother-in-law, Sandy and Freda Young of Newton; sisters-in-law, Renee (Craig) Hadsall of Newton and Carole Frick of Altoona; brothers-in-law, Richard (Brenda) Young of Newton and Randy Young of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister and brother.
