Family legend says that William and another brother were in King George III's bodyguard. (The king was mentally ill.) When the King turned against them, they had prepared in advance and fled England sometime before 1796. They had told their wives to ask the King for a divorce and apparently it was granted. William settled in New York state and then moved to northwestern Pennsylvania sometime between 1824 and 1827. No information on 1st wife in England. He may have been married 2nd wife in NY and she may have died. He married Sylvia Thurston from NY in 1796. They had 4 children: Elizabeth, Clarissa, Isaac, and Eunice - all born in NY.
