Jeffery had a troubled youth, running away from home often, which seemed to help him compete admirably on his HS Track & Field team. He later graduated from Eureka Senior High and joined the USMC, like his father had done. He was assigned to Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC. There he acquired a taste for the local moonshine, stayed incredibly fit though, and we believe that is where he met his wife Carol A, whose last name has escaped us. Jeff and Carol had a son, Brian, and came to Eureka to visit, where Carol and Brian stayed with the family for quite some time after Jeff returned to the USMC. Their troubled marriage ended in a CA divorce in 1980 and their son was given up for adoption to a Zumwalt family who lived in a Humbolt Co. town nearby. Our family was too troubled ourselves at the time to be a healthy home for the beloved boy Brian. Carol left as soon as Brian was adopted out. Jeffery, after being discharged from the USMC, later returned to CA and fathered a son out of wedlock, Aaron J Roylance, and then departed East from Sacramento, CA, where he ended up working as a janitor in a school in West Virginia. He died, we were told on the phone, a short time later in a single-car, alcohol-related accident when the driver left the road and his truck struck a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle that Jeff was riding in. He was cremated and his ashes were sent to his parents' address in CA, until they were later spread with his brother Joseph's somewhere in Oregon.
